Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-4) released the following the statement applauding the decision of Circuit Judge David Flanagan to grant a permanent injunction against Wisconsin's voter identification law.

“This permanent injunction is another victory for the people of Wisconsin and all Americans who believe that the right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy. This law - like others that have been put in place across this country - does nothing but attempt to return us to an era of Jim Crow politics. Requiring strict photo ID at the polls is nothing more than a modern day poll tax.

“Our right to vote is one of the most protected rights of any that we enjoy as American citizens. The Constitution was amended five times over our nation’s history to reflect this American ideal. Therefore we must continue to fight to ensure that all Americans have access to the ballot regardless of race, economic status, or age.”

Rep. Gwen Moore has been a leader on the issue of voter protection. She along with Keith Ellison (D-MN), have introduced H.R. 3316, the Voter Access Protection Act, to make it a federal law to protect the voting rights of those Americans who lack photo ID in federal elections.
