By Jonah Kaplan, Julia Fello Dontre Hamilton's mother boarded a bus to Washington, D.C. Thursday morning. She will spend Mother's Day with other moms who have lost their children. Former Milwaukee police officer Christopher Manney shot and killed her son in Red Arrow Park last year. While she is there, she will participate in the Million Moms March. The original march was a push for gun control. Maria Hamilton will now join other moms for a new march for those who have lost their children during police encounters. Organizers say they're marching for those killed by police and those killed by "racist violence." Hamilton said her goal is to have the Department of Justice reopen police shooting cases around the country and investigate the officers involved without "bias." Maria also plans to meet with Congresswoman Gwen Moore's staff and the White House staff during her trip. To view this article online, please click here.
