By phone, email and even postcard, voters are reaching out.

 

"Just an exponential increase in phone calls from both Republican and Democrat constituents," said Eric Harris, Communications Director for the Office of Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-WI).

 

So much so, some people report they've had trouble reaching elected officials by phone. At Sen. Ron Johnson's downtown Milwaukee location, the office manager tells TODAY'S TMJ4 they have such a high call volume and no call waiting, so if all of their phone lines are occupied, you may have trouble getting through. His office said they take their time to talk with every caller, which some days number in the thousands.

 

Those people are many of the same people Harris said their office talks to.

 

"Not only do our constituents call us, they call both our senators," he said.

 

Representative Jim Sensenbrenner's office writes all voices are welcome to reach out to them, too. They sent the following statement:

 

"Our office receives many calls from our constituents on a regular basis on a variety of topics, including problems they have with federal agencies. Mr. Sensenbrenner is one of the most responsive Members of Congress, and at a time when most Members conduct tele-town halls from the safety of their offices, he is out in the district speaking directly to his constituents and giving them ample opportunity during more than 100 public events each year to discuss their views face-to-face. Even when there’s difference in opinion, he is thankful for and carefully considers all constituents’ viewpoints regardless of whether they are in line with his own."

 

Speaker Paul Ryan's office keeps track of the top 5 issues they get calls about. This week they include immigration, terrorism, taxes, and the Affordable Care Act. Harris said the ACA inspires calls from both Republicans and Democrats.

 

Ryan's Press Secretary tells us their number one goal is to provide "flawless constituent services." Ryan's office writes in January that they sent more than 9,500 responses to people in Wisconsin's 1st district.
