As we move ahead, I look forward to working with President Obama and my congressional colleagues in pursing a comprehensive, bipartisan bill that will finally fix this outdated system. Democrats are up to the task. I look to my Republican counterparts to set aside the rhetoric and join us.
Washington, D.C. – In response to President Obama’s national address regarding executive action on immigration, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-04) released the following statement: "I fully support President Obama in his pursuit to address our painfully dysfunctional immigration system. Such efforts demonstrate the President’s unwavering commitment in cultivating a more compassionate and just society. "While Republicans continue to suggest government shutdowns and impeachment hearings, I would like to remind them that the President is acting well within his legal executive authority, the same authority employed by every President since Eisenhower, including five Republican Presidents. Despite partisan attempts to instill panic and anger into this critical debate, I have faith that the American public will see past these fear tactics and appreciate the commonsense approach outlined by the President. “As we move ahead, I look forward to working with President Obama and my congressional colleagues in pursing a comprehensive, bipartisan bill that will finally fix this outdated system. Democrats are up to the task. I look to my Republican counterparts to set aside the rhetoric and join us." ### |
