Congresswoman Gwen Moore Calls on DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to Retract False Statement and Protect Milwaukee Resident Wrongfully Accused of Threatening President Trump Yesterday, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-04) sent a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem demanding the immediate removal and retraction of public statements and social media posts falsely implicating her constituent, Mr. Ramon Morales Reyes, in a federal crime. On May 21st, Mr. Morales Reyes was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after being accused of sending a threatening letter to President Donald Trump. However, investigators later confirmed Mr. Morales Reyes was framed. The actual perpetrator—who is currently facing charges for felony witness intimidation—admitted to writing the letter in an effort to have Mr. Morales Reyes deported before he could testify in a criminal case. Mr. Reyes has a pending U-visa application, which provides temporary legal status and a pathway to permanent residency to victims of crimes who assist law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of a crimes. “I am requesting that you take the statement off your website and make clear his arrest was based on falsified information by the individual Mr. Morales Reyes was set to testify against,” said Congresswoman Moore. “I am asking you to take immediate action to remove the statement regarding Mr. Morales Reyes and provide an immediate correction of the record on your social media as well as the Department of Homeland Security website. “Mr. Morales Reyes is an upstanding resident of Milwaukee and deserves due process. Mr. Morales Reyes is not dangerous nor considered a flight risk. He is a hardworking family man committed to the City of Milwaukee where he has lived for the past twenty years.” Read the full letter HERE.
