Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-04) issued the following statement after House Republicans passed former President Donald Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” — a sweeping piece of legislation that includes the largest cuts to health care in American history, slashes food assistance families and children, and delivers massive tax giveaways to the ultra-wealthy: 

“I want to be clear, the Republican “Big Bonanza for Billionaires” bill is a betrayal of everyday Americans.  

House Republicans have just voted to rip health care away from millions and gut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), leaving families — including children, seniors, and veterans — to go hungry. All of this, just to hand out one more round of golden giveaways to the richest of the rich. 

This bill doesn’t invest in our future; it robs from it. Republicans didn’t have to do this. It’s perfectly possible to draft tax legislation in a way that helps working Americans while not providing a windfall to the most fortunate. Republicans double-down on the failed trickle-down economics of the past, while adding trillions more to the national debt. 

The result is that Americans will foot the bill an enormous bill — not just in human suffering, but in dollars. This legislation explodes the deficit and trillions to the debt, all while managing to not invest in the future.  

I am disgusted, but I am not defeated. The fight is far from over. I will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the American people and fight for policies that value dignity, fairness, and opportunity — not obscene wealth and corporate greed.”
