Congresswoman Gwen Moore Hosts Congressional Art Competition Reception

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.

“The 4^th Congressional District of Wisconsin has so much young talent,” said Rep. Moore. “I am so proud to honor this year’s winner and recognize the other participants in this competition.”

This competition is an amazing opportunity for students to showcase their artistic ability.  In addition to having their artwork displayed in our nation’s Capital building, the first-place winner was awarded with a certificate and may also be eligible for a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design.  The top three winners received a prize of nominal value, and all participants were recognized for their artistic efforts. The winner and a legal guardian were provided with two (2) roundtrip tickets, courtesy of Southwest Airlines, to facilitate transportation to and from Washington, DC.
