Congresswoman Gwen Moore Votes Against Tax Giveaways to Billionaires, Harmful Cuts to Foodshare and BadgerCare “Republicans’ $7 trillion in tax giveaways to big corporations and billionaires will be paid for on the backs of struggling families, seniors, children, and veterans. Despite their talking points, the Republican budget resolution greenlights the House to begin to make steep cuts to BadgerCare and other Medicaid programs across the country. BadgerCare serves around 33% of children in Wisconsin, helps around 33% of Wisconsinites with disability under the age of 65, and helps move than 176,000 adults including seniors receive the long-term supports and services they need. I’ve done the math, and you can’t make the level of cuts in the House called for by this budget resolution without touching Medicaid. My office gets calls daily from my constituents who testify about the importance of BadgerCare to them and their children and oppose the Republicans’ cruel cuts. While the party of so-called ‘fiscal responsibility’ claim they will fight ‘waste, fraud, and abuse,’ in reality, their crusade will result in people losing their health care while massively increasing the federal deficit over the next decade through budget gimmicks. SNAP, (Foodshare in Wisconsin), is also on the chopping block, despite grocery prices remaining high for everyday Americans to pay for their tax giveaways to the rich. I was a ‘No’ when this resolution came before the House last month and nothing that occurred in the Senate, including the majority defeating amendments to protect FoodShare and BadgerCare in that chamber, improved this legislation. Not one bit. This budget resolution puts the Republicans’ priorities on full display and it’s clear that this Administration and GOP-led Congress have no interest in delivering on their promise to lower the cost of living for Americans. Republicans are only working to enrich billionaires and big corporations – at the expense of everyone else.”
