Congresswoman Gwen Moore Statement on Fourth Anniversary of January 6th Attack on U.S. Capitol In a video statement, Congresswoman Gwen Moore recognized the 4th anniversary of the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol. Transcript: “Hello, everyone. This is your Congresswoman, Gwen Moore. Today is January 6, 2025, and I just witnessed a peaceful transfer of power from the Biden administration and the Trump to the Trump administration. The Vice President, Kamala Harris, very, um, graciously and eloquently accepted the assembled electoral vote count and announced that the new president and the new Vice president were to be Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance. This was just so different from the January 6, 2021, that I experienced right here this very office, where 140 officers were injured, where police, officers died that day, where the sacred capitol was desecrated with feces, and MAGA rioters marched through that sacred building bearing the Confederate flag. But yes, today there was a peaceful transfer of power. The question is, can we keep the peace? Can we keep the peace when President-elect Trump has vowed to pardon the January 6th marauders, setting them loose in states all across this great America? And what we have to wonder is when Democrats provide some resistance to extreme MAGA policies, and when we push back, will the MAGA movement rise up again, given that they have the permission structure to riot when they don't get their way? Well, I will quote President Biden, you can't just love America when you win. You've got to love America as Democrats do. When we don't prevail, please know that we will be here to try to secure the future of all of our constituents, even those who didn't vote for us, and to protect our democracy and the institutions that have made us all free. Thank you and happy New Year.”
