Congresswoman Gwen Moore Statement on Democrats Securing House Passage of Continuing Resolution to Avoid House GOP Shutdown

“Today, House Democrats worked to avert a government shutdown and protected the American people and the economy from bearing the brunt of a House GOP-manufactured crisis. After refusing to work in a bipartisan way to avoid a shutdown and trying to advance partisan policies and funding cuts with no chance of becoming law, I am relieved for the American people that House Republican leadership finally relented and brought a bill reflecting most of a bipartisan agreement to the floor. 

Today, we ensured millions of Americans would not feel the pain of their devastating cuts to critical programs, and extended authorization and funding for key programs such as FAA and community health centers that would have expired and secures additional disaster relief dollars for the growing number of Americans who are being impacted by extreme weather. Unfortunately, this legislation fails to include vital Ukraine aid, which only hurts our ally as they protect themselves against an unprovoked invasion.

It’s clear the House-GOP majority chooses to govern from crisis to crisis, and it’s a disservice to the American people and sabotages our economic recovery. Passing this continuing resolution only kicks the can down the road. I hope my Republican colleagues chose to continue to work with us to advance strong FY 2024 funding bills during this period, so that we do not have to bring working families, military service members, government workers and contractors, and small businesses to the edge of crisis again. When Republicans succumb to MAGA extremism, these are the consequences.”
