Congresswoman Gwen Moore Condemns Wisconsin GOP Efforts to Subvert the Will of Wisconsin Voters with Impeachment Threats “Judge Janet Protasiewicz won her seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court by more than 200,000 votes, a landslide win in Wisconsin. The people of Wisconsin have spoken, but the Republican Party of Wisconsin seeks to nullify the will of voters by impeaching her before she has heard a single case. It makes a mockery of the impeachment process and is an affront to the people of Wisconsin and democracy itself. This is not an isolated incident, but part of a disturbing pattern of Republicans rejecting or subverting election results they oppose and eroding fair representation through gerrymandering and voter suppression laws. The judiciary is a coequal branch of government charged with ensuring that all parties are in compliance with the law and Constitution. A state judiciary discipline panel has reviewed and dismissed the accusations the Republican Legislature has levied against Justice Protasiewicz. She, like any other judge, should be allowed to carry out her duties without the fear of retaliation. I would hope that all Wisconsinites would condemn these threats against Judge Protasiewicz.” |
