Congresswoman Gwen Moore Slams Partisan Ruling Weakening Affordable Care Act Today, a Texas judge blocked the Affordable Care Act’s preventative services requirement, which ensures preventative health services are available in ACA plans without an additional cost. In response, she released the following statement: “The Affordable Care Act has been a gamechanger for millions, making health care more affordable and accessible for Americans. Through the ACA, preventative care such as cancer and heart disease screenings, breastfeeding care for postpartum mothers, and contraception require health plans, including private plans, to provide these preventive services with zero out-of-pocket costs. It’s a recognition that preventing health conditions before they adversely impact an individual’s health or screening early not only saves our constituents needless grief and pain, but it also saves our health care system and the American taxpayer money. This access to preventative care is life-changing and lifesaving and has given Americans the security to know they do not have to put off preventative screenings because they can’t afford it. Despite millions of Americans depending on the ACA, Republicans have been working to repeal it since day one, chipping away wherever they can. I have lost count of how many times Republicans have tried to repeal the ACA completely. Now, they are relying on the partisan judges they packed the courts with to do their bidding and enact their radical and unpopular agenda. Today, a conservative judge is threatening the fate of preventative services for millions, care that can detect certain cancers, heart disease, depression, and more. This ruling is dangerous, extreme, and will risk lives.” |
