Congresswoman Gwen Moore Votes No on Polluters Over People Act

Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore voted no on H.R. 1 and released the following statement:

“I voted to pass the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to finally put resources towards protecting our planet, building a clean energy economy, and lowering energy costs.

H.R. 1 is a gift to the fossil fuel industry and reverses Democrats’ work towards a clean energy transition. The GOP claims increasing construction of natural gas pipelines in America will lower costs at the pump. But Big Oil has proven that they will use their profits to benefit their shareholders – not pass those savings to ordinary Americans. Because of their greed, they raked in record profits last year.

The GOP’s legislation will reverse vital IRA provisions to support clean energy projects and clean energy rebate programs to benefit working families. It weakens an affected community’s ability to file lawsuits following environmental disasters and limits their chance to speak during comment periods. Republicans would hinder the ability of vulnerable communities to voice their concerns about what happens in their own backyard, while enabling major corporations free license to turn their backyards into profit margins. This legislation is a rushed-through, partisan effort that will only help polluters, which is why I voted no.”
