Congresswoman Gwen Moore Statement on House Passage of Her Bill to Reauthorize the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) “There isn’t a better way to commemorate October as Domestic Violence Awareness than advancing FVPSA. With this bill, we secure funding for the lifesaving and lifechanging services survivors depend on and support violence prevention measures. As a domestic abuse survivor, I know firsthand what it’s like to be in a life-or-death situation. A survivor is most at-risk when leaving, which is why FVPSA’s funding for emergency housing is so crucial. This legislation also supports the local organizations serving in our communities, helping meet an important need which has only increased during the pandemic. I am proud to have worked with my sister Rep. Lucy McBath and my colleague Rep. John Katko, both champions for domestic violence survivors, in introducing and advancing this strong reauthorization of the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act.” Find more information on FVPSA here. |
