Congresswoman Gwen Moore Statement on Partisan U.S. Supreme Court Decision to End Eviction Moratorium In a 6-3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) ability to enforce their eviction moratorium. In response, Congresswoman Moore released the following statement: “Following their familiar pattern, GOP justices hand down another partisan decision. This callous decision will cause housing insecurity for families as COVID-19 cases and tragically, deaths, continue to increase in our country. We need federal legislation to extend the eviction moratorium and I have joined my colleagues in calling on House leaders to bring such a bill to the floor. It’s also important that available federal rental assistance funding is distributed to those who need it, including small landlords and tenants. Nationwide, an estimated 89 percent of those funds have not been dispersed and I welcome recent efforts by the Biden Administration to ease program requirements to speed up the flow of assistance. To keep families housed and small landlords supported, we need to explore all options and use every resource available.” |
