Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Senator Tammy Baldwin Ask U.S. Department of Justice to Consider Request from Families for a Federal Civil Rights Investigation of the Wauwatosa Police Department’s Practices WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Senator Tammy Baldwin sent a letter to the United States Department of Justice asking that they “thoroughly and deliberately” consider a request from three Wisconsin families for a federal civil rights investigation of the Wauwatosa Police Department’s practices. In the letter to Kristen Clarke, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, Moore and Baldwin said, “We write to bring to your attention the attached July 5, 2021 request from our constituents for the United States Department of Justice to conduct a federal civil rights investigation of the Wauwatosa Police Department’s practices. This request comes from three families who have each had a loved one shot and killed by a police officer at the department. These Wisconsin families have put forward serious allegations of misconduct, including policing practices that allegedly targeted individuals because of their race and/or their engagement in activities protected by the First Amendment.” The full letter from Congresswoman Moore and Senator Baldwin, as well as the July 5th request to the Department of Justice from the families, can be found here. |
