Congresswoman Gwen MooreAnnounces $117 Million for Local Colleges, Universities, and Students

Biden-Harris Administration releases American Rescue Plan funding for local institutions; At least half of the funding will be distributed to students as emergency financial aid

Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore announced more than $117 million in emergency funding for colleges, universities, and students in Wisconsin’s Fourth Congressional Districtunder theAmerican Rescue Plan. The funding will help local institutions cope with the severe financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and continue serving their students safely. At least half of the funding each institution receives will be distributed in the form of emergency cash assistance grants to students who are facing hunger, homelessness, and other hardship.

The American Rescue Plan provides$36 billion for nearly 3,500 public and private, nonprofit colleges and universities nationwide.

"Wisconsin has top-notch universities that provide a stellareducation and training, drawing people in nationally and internationally. Many local students at colleges and universities have faced financial struggles due to the pandemic, and it’s important that we respond to their needs by investing in their success. That's why I am thrilled to announce funding that will allow these students to continue following their dreams, pursuing an education, and meet their basic needs.

I am also pleased that President Biden has lifted Trump’s mean-spirited, xenophobic ban on federal relief funds being used to support undocumented students. Immigrant students enrich our universities andthis pandemic has hit all students hard without regard to immigration status, and many have seen their education and lives turned upside down,” saidCongresswoman Moore.

Today, President Biden also announced guidance that ends President Trump’s ban on undocumented students accessing COVID-19 relief funds.
