Congresswoman Gwen Moore Votes to Pass the Equality Act Congresswoman Moore supported the Equality Act, which will ban discrimination against individuals based on sexual orientation or gender identity at the federal level. In response, she released the following statement: “Discrimination, in whatever form it takes, harms our communities. No person should be denied services or opportunities because of who they are or who they love. But without explicit, federal legal protections, LGBTQ individuals can face discrimination in several spheres of life from accessing safe and affordable housing to gainful employment opportunities. Today, we pass legislation that would update federal civil rights laws to establish crucial safeguards against unjust treatment for LGBTQ Americans, honoring the democratic ideals of our country. I am so proud to join my colleagues in supporting the Equality Act and will continue fighting to actualize all forms of justice and equity for my LGBTQ brothers and sisters.” |
