Congresswoman Moore Provisions Included in Congressional Black Caucus’ Jobs and Justice Act of 2020 Today, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) introduced their policy agenda, the Jobs and Justice Act of 2020, which includes Congresswoman Moore’s legislation. In response, she released the following statement: “This pandemic has highlighted the disparities in our country and the need to support the most vulnerable in our country. The CBC’s Jobs and Justice Act addresses the social and economic inequities facing Black America. The bill includes strong provisions to support job creation, improve housing and education, reform policing and our criminal justice system and promote economic growth and development in our communities. That’s why I am so thrilled that my legislation to expand and modernize the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), expand access to quality health care for foster youth who have aged out of the system and build upon the efforts of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program to support businesses who tend to lack access to capital or have faced discrimination was included in the legislative package. My Worker Relief and Credit Reform Act (WRCR) Act builds upon the success of the EITC as a poverty-alleviating tool to reach more workers and expand the definition of work to include caregivers and low-income students. In this health and economic crisis, it’s critical that we put money in the hands of working people. My Dosha “DJay” Joi Immediate Coverage for Former Foster Youth Act will honor the legacy of DJay by ensuring that former foster youth have access to Medicaid until age 26. This will help former foster youth gain access to the care they need and support their successful transition into adulthood. My other legislation that is included in this package would help improve the FAA’s DBE program by increasing transparency and the sharing of information about how the FAA is working to ensure that minority contractors can compete for and win billions of dollars in federal aviation funding each year. Lastly, this package includes the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act which includes my provisions on increasing effective de-escalation training for police officers and numerous other reforms to increase accountability, transparency, and ensure that those who work in law enforcement are not above the law. This legislation begins to respond to the cries from our communities for justice and change.” |
