Congresswoman Gwen Moore Votes in Support of the Delivering for America Act

Amid Trump Administration efforts to sabotage the United States Postal Service (Postal Service) by removing blue boxes, eliminating overtime, and the removal of mail sorting equipment, which has resulted in delayed mail, the House passed legislation to protect timely mail delivery and provide $25 billion in funding to the Postal Service. In response, she released the following statement:

“The Postal Service is an essential service that Americans trust and connects them to the prescriptions, paychecks and other services they need. It will also play a critical role in in November when tens of millions of Americans will choose to vote using absentee or mail in ballots.

I appreciate the men and women of the Postal Service who work hard every day, even in the midst of a pandemic. They deserve leadership that will support their work, not undermine it.

I have heard from so many of my constituents who are concerned about the damaging recent changes to Postal Service operations, changes which are already being felt in our communities through reports of delays in getting critical mail.

While the recent announcement that these changes would be suspended for a short time is a step forward, that is not enough.

That’s why I voted for this bill to restore services through at least January 31, 2021, bar hiring freezes, the removal of blue boxes or sorting machines and the closure of postal facilities, ensure that all election mail is postmarked and secures  needed funding to help the Postal Service through this trying time.

I hope my colleagues in the Senate will act quickly to pass this legislation.”
