Congresswoman Gwen Moore Statement on the Application Period for Milwaukee’s Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program Wait List The Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee will accept pre-applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Program lottery between June 23rd at 9 a.m. and June 25th at 6 p.m. made by any head of household who is 18 years or older and who meets the household income requirements. Participants must register and apply through the online portal (referenced below) unless you require reasonable accommodation. Congresswoman Moore released the following statement: “I encourage individuals and families to learn about the Housing Choice Voucher program and apply for the lottery if they are eligible now. Americans across the nation are facing an affordable housing crisis. There are not enough affordable homes and housing prices continue to increase while wages remain stagnant. The fact that our city has a lottery just to put people on a housing wait list is a testament to the tremendous need in our community for affordable and quality housing.” Housing Choice (Section 8) Vouchers offer help in affording decent, safe, and sanitary housing. The Housing Choice Voucher program can meaningfully reduce families’ rental costs, allowing them to devote more of their limited resources to meeting other basic needs and can reduce inter-generational poverty. After the application period closes, 3,000 households will be randomly selected and added to the wait list to receive a Housing Choice Voucher, a process that could take up to 2- to 3-years. Registrants requiring a Reasonable Accommodation may call 414-286-5414. Find more information about the program here. |
