Congresswoman Gwen Moore's District and D.C. Office to Close Friday in Observance of Juneteenth Today, Congresswoman Moore announces the closure of her district and D.C. office on Friday in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. In response, Congresswoman Moore released the following statement: "Juneteenth is a day of celebration, representing the final end to slavery and the beginning of freedom for so many Black Americans. This year's Juneteenth comes at a pivotal moment, when 155 years later, our country is forced to see how visibly slavery continues to shape the framework of our country. Juneteenth symbolizes one of the most important moments in our country's history, and this truth must be reflected in how we celebrate. That's why on Friday, I will close my district and D.C. office to observe this important holiday."
