Lawmakers call for gun reform following mass shootings

After two mass shootings rocked Texas and Ohio, politicians in those state's said enough is enough with current U.S. gun laws.

"[We need to make] sure that we change our laws, so it is harder for something like this to happen again," presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke said.

Rep Gwen Moore, D-WI, noted 29 people were killed in one day from mass shootings.

Sen  Tammy Baldwin said in a tweet that the failure of Washington to act is a "moral failure."

Rep. Mark Pocan, D-WI. said the House has already passed the background checks bill that Democrats want the senate to take up.

"Senator McConnell should bring the Senate back tomorrow, and pass the background check bill, and send it to the president," Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-OH, said. "And the president must sign it. Period."

Rep. Sean Duffy, R-WI, said there is no place in this country for that kind of violence, and his heart goes out to the victim's families.

Wisconsin Carry CEO Nik Clark says background check laws aren't the answer.

"If you're willing to commit capital murder, I mean that's the most serious crime you can commit," Clark said. "They're not going to be concerned with lesser crimes like buying a gun illegally if that was the case."

Clark says lawmakers should wait for more facts before taking action.

"We're already using this as political motivation, when we don't even know yet how this individual acquired his firearm. Whether he purchased it or obtained it through some other means."
