Congresswoman Moore Recognizes EITC Awareness Day

(Washington, DC) — Today on Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Awareness Day, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-04) encouraged eligible Milwaukee residents to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), one of the nation’s most effective anti-poverty tools that provides support to low-income workers and families.

“The EITC can make an incredible difference in the lives of working families across the country. In 2018, the EITC lifted more than five million families out of poverty, including around 3 million children.

“An estimated 1 in 5 eligible taxpayers miss out on the EITC because they don’t know about it, don’t know how to claim it, or don’t know where to find trustworthy tax help. For example, many Americans don’t realize that to be eligible for the EITC, they must file a tax return even if they are not required to file.

“I want to use this day to highlight the EITC’s success and ensure that everyone eligible can receive the credits benefits they earned and deserve. I encourage every Milwaukee resident to access the free tax preparation programs around the city to know what benefits are available to them and to get assistance filing and claiming the EITC and other refundable credits.”
