Rep. Gwen Moore Statement On Ruling Denying Medicaid Work Requirement

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-4) is releasing the following statement regarding a federal judge ruling against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ approval of Medicaid waiver projects in Kentucky and Arkansas:

“When Scott Walker’s waiver requiring some BadgerCare recipients to work in order to receive health care benefits last year, I made it abundantly clear that I was staunchly against it. Work requirements have never been about helping poor and working-class people gain necessary work skills and training. It’s simply a form of punishment directed at the most vulnerable Americans,” Congresswoman Moore said.

“Hearing the federal courts ruling on similar Medicaid waiver projects in Kentucky and Arkansas is reassuring, as we tackle this important health care crisis created by Republicans and a President determined to punish poor and sick people. The Medicaid work waiver goes against the intent of the program, and rest assured, I will continue to work to ensure Scott Walker’s plan sees the same outcome as Kentucky and Arkansas. And, my hope is that the courts also rule against similar efforts underway in Ohio, Virginia, and elsewhere,” said Congresswoman Moore.
