Congresswoman Gwen Moore Official Statement On The Release Of The Mueller Report

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-4) is releasing the following statement regarding the release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report to Attorney General William Barr:

“The long-awaited report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, which he delivered last Friday to Attorney General William Barr, needs to see the light of day. Let me remind you, it does not exonerate President Donald J. Trump despite the wording in Barr’s report released to the American people a mere 48-hours following Mueller’s report,” Rep. Moore said.

“Mueller issued more than 2,800 subpoenas, executed nearly 500 search warrants, obtained more than 230 orders for communication records, issued almost 50 orders authorizing use of pen registers, made 13 requests to foreign governments for evidence, and interviewed approximately 500 witnesses. And, his office indicted 34 people and three companies during his investigation. And yet, it only took Attorney General Barr two days to release his report that attempts to exonerate the President, despite the Mueller report stating, ‘while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him,’” Congresswoman Moore said.

“In the spirit of fairness and transparency, Congress—the governing body ultimately responsible for determining guilt or innocence of a sitting President under investigation—and, the American people deserve to know the truth. The full report, along with all the accompanying documents must be released. This will set a firm precedent and strike a balance between independence and accountability in sensitive investigations, Rep. Moore said.”

On March 14, the House voted 420 - 0 in support of transparency by requesting to make the report public.
