Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-04) released the following statement after introducing a House companion bill to Senator Tammy Baldwin’s Water Technology Acceleration Act, which would boost federal funding for state and local governments to implement newly developed technologies for supplying and treating water.
“Access to clean water is a basic human right; however, our nation’s aging water infrastructure continues to expose millions of Americans to unsafe drinking water. Experts in Wisconsin’s global water hub at the Water Council and UW-Milwaukee are hard at work creating advanced technologies that supply, treat, and minimize the contamination of drinking water. Yet, state and local governments lack the funding to implement them. “Inaction is unacceptable at a time when thousands of cities across the country, including Milwaukee, have drinking water with unsafe levels of lead. We must unlock this innovative research to solve our nation’s water challenges. The Water Technology Acceleration Act would work towards this end to ensure communities have the resources they need to test and implement new water technologies that keep our water clean and our children healthy.”
