Moore Statement on New NLRB Union Election Rules
Washington, DC,
June 22, 2011
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee) made the following statement on the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) new proposed rules for swifter union certification elections: “We need to throw everything we have at getting Americans back to work and getting our economy back on track. “Union participation and a strong middle class go hand in hand. And if we make it easier for workers who want to join a union to do so, we will bolster America’s middle class, which has been beleaguered by increased health care and education costs alongside stagnant wages. “In Wisconsin, which played a strong role in the early labor movement, unions are under siege. The misguided leadership in Madison has potential to further devastate our already strapped middle class. This is why I’m particularly glad that the NLRB wants to make it easier for workers to band together and strengthen our middle class.” |
