Gwen Moore Statement on GOP Obstruction of Short-Term Unemployment Insurance and Payroll Tax-Cut Extension
Washington, DC,
December 20, 2011
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-4) released the following statement on Republican efforts to block passage of the Senate Amended Short-Term Extension of Unemployment Insurance and Payroll Tax Cuts. “I hope the American people are paying attention because during these past couple of days, Republicans have shown their true colors. Even with a majority of their own party voting in favor of this legislation in the Senate, House Republicans are willing to obstruct any sort of assistance to the American people – particularly the middle-class and low-income. “How shameful it is that Republicans would once again engage in political theater and in the process put the financial stability of American families in jeopardy. If they fail to act, on January 1st, Americans may see their taxes go up, lose their unemployment benefits – including about 31,000 Wisconsinites - and doctors’ Medicare payments will be slashed. This is simply unacceptable. “It’s time for Republicans to cut the games and pass this legislation. The American people need and deserve this.” ### For “Moore”News Updates Follow Gwen Like Gwen Moore on |
