Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-4) released this statement following the announcement by the Department of Labor that the economy added 243,000 jobs in January and the unemployment rate fell to 8.3 percent: “Today’s jobs report was very encouraging on a variety of fronts. With 257,000 jobs added by private businesses, this marks the 23rd consecutive month of private sector job growth. Additionally, we are seeing increases in pay and significant growth in the manufacturing sector. “Most notably, African American unemployment dropped from 15.8 to 13.6 percent. This is the first time in months that we have seen any significant positive change in the employment numbers for African Americans. “While this is good news, we still have a long way to go to ensure that we are providing greater opportunities for employment for all Americans." ### For “Moore” Follow Gwen Like Gwen Moore on |
