Milwaukee health clinic receives $1.6M federal grant

Progressive Community Health Centers Inc. in Milwaukee has been awarded a $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration.

The administration is the primary federal agency for improving access to health care services for people who are uninsured, isolated or medically vulnerable.

Progressive Community Health Centers offers adult medicine, pediatric medicine, women’s health, dental care, financial counseling, case management and referral services. The health center's efforts have also helped to reduce avoidable emergency room visits by providing preventative care, thereby lessening the costs for health care systems and taxpayers. The grant will facilitate services that aim to reduce health disparities among high-risk populations.

“Access to health care is not an issue specific to one demographic, but spans across ethnic borders,” said U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee) in announcing the grant Tuesday. “This much-needed grant will help PCHC continue to provide health care services for those who are oftentimes overlooked.”

Progressive Community Health Centers has two locations in Milwaukee: Hillside Family Health Center at 1452 N. 7th St. and Lisbon Avenue Health Center at 3522 W. Lisbon Ave.
