Dear friend,
I hope you are safe and healthy right now. I wanted to share some legislative updates with you and some free resources that could benefit you and upcoming events that you might be interested in joining.
Legislative Updates
- Last week, I supported House passage of the Postal Service Reform Act, which will help address the financial challenges facing the Postal Service, including by ending a federal prefunding requirement that has hurt the Postal Service’s fiscal condition, protecting six day delivery of the mail, and helping ensure that the Postal Service can continue reaching our communities for years to come. That legislation is now before the Senate.
- I supported House passage of the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act to ensure survivors of sexual harassment and abuse can speak up without being subject to arbitration clauses which hide in the paperwork of everything from leases to terms and conditions. The U.S. Senate quickly followed suit and passed the legislation and it is now awaiting signature into law by President Biden.
- Thanks to the bipartisan infrastructure law, areas of concern in the Great Lakes region (areas that have been environmentally degraded) including right here in Milwaukee, will receive $1 billion in funds to help fast-track clean-up. The clean-up efforts benefit our environment and will support jobs and new economic investments in areas that were previously inaccessible to the public.
- Many businesses in Milwaukee continue to feel the impacts of the pandemic and need additional support to stay afloat. I wrote a letter to House leaders calling for a comprehensive COVID-19 relief package to be included in the Fiscal Year 22 spending package that supports struggling small businesses, such as restaurants, and individuals.
