I hope you are doing well! In 2024, my district office staff worked hard to serve each of you. Their expertise and passion helped many of my constituents who had issues accessing their hard-earned federal benefits. For example, one of my constituents’ Social Security back payments were stuck at the Great Lakes Payment Service Center (GLPSC). He hadn’t received his Social Security backpay in a year. That’s a long time to go without the benefits you need. One of my hardworking staffers worked to resolve this, reaching out to GLPSC to release his past due benefits. The total amount he received was $20,116!
Another constituent lost his US Direct Express Card in April. These cards are a safe way for residents to receive their federal benefits. After reporting his card missing, he was having issues receiving a new card and called our office in July. After working with the Direct Express Representative, a representative called the constituent directly and fixed the identification verification. He was then able to receive another card. Our office helped ensure $2,530 worth of SSA, SSI, and three State payments reached his bank account.
We have also worked to help our veterans. One of my constituents had been discharged from their military service and later was diagnosed with a service-connected condition that granted him 70 percent disability status. In 2016, the VA reduced his rating to 50%. He went through a long appeals’ process to challenge his disability rate decrease, and later he contacted our office. Thanks to my staff’s advocacy, he was granted 100% service connection backdated to 2011, resulting in $44,000 in back pay being issued to the veteran. I am proud of these victories for my constituents and the relief my staff's hard work could bring to a frustrating situation.
