Dear friend, I hope you are well! During this district work period, I held meetings with local leaders and veterans, honored our heroes on Memorial Day, and talked with state and local reporters about issues facing Milwaukee.
Veterans Roundtable
Our veterans deserve access to all the health care they need to stay healthy, including dental care, but too many lack access. I had a great discussion with veterans in Milwaukee about the need to make this care more available to our veterans.
Highlighting Investments in Milwaukee
From supporting affordable housing to supporting revitalizations, the American Rescue Plan Act continues to bring meaningful investments to Milwaukee. I was thrilled to join Mayor Johnson, President Biden’s Senior Adviser Gene Sperling, and Ashanti Hamilton, Director of the Office of Community Wellness and Safety, to announce $1.2 million in funding to support local organizations working to reduce violence and promote peace.
Wreath Laying Ceremony
On Memorial Day, we recognized those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I laid wreaths with local veterans to honor those brave heroes here in Milwaukee.
Newsmaker Luncheon
I had a great time at my Newsmaker Luncheon, hosted by Milwaukee Press Club and WisPolitics. I took questions from reporters from TMJ4, WTMJ and CBS 58, on a variety of pressing issues in our community, including funding issues with MPS, the Social Development Commission’s closure, and more.
Meeting with Sherrie Tussler of Hunger Task Force
Hunger Task Force does amazing work fighting food insecurity, and I am proud to work in Congress to advocate for programs, like SNAP and WIC that keep food on kitchen tables. I recently spoke to Sherrie Tussler, recently retired CEO of Hunger Task Force, who is such a powerful force in our community, about their ongoing work.
