Congresswoman Gwen Moore Sends Letter to Social Development Commission Board of Directors Following Closure

After learning the Social Development Commission (SDC) closed its offices, which are all located in the 4th Congressional District, Congresswoman Moore sent a letter to SDC board of directors. In this letter, she raised several questions such as the status of its federal funds and the urgent need to communicate its closure to clients and vendors. She also wrote a letter to the Office of Community Services, Administration for Children and Families, United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), seeking their guidance on their process and to ensure that her constituents have access to the resources they need during this transitional period.

“From providing energy assistance to food aid, the Social Development Commission and its staff has helped secure critical services for my constituents, especially in times of need. I am troubled and saddened to learn of its closure because of how many of my constituents depend on its services, including on time-sensitive matters like tax filing assistance. I am also concerned about its financial discrepancies and support an investigation by HHS Inspector General. Our most vulnerable residents will hurt the most from this closure and it’s vital that SDC works to support their clients during this transition and provides proper communication to all who are impacted.”
