Dear friend,
I hope you are doing well. I want to share important reminders about resources that can help you and your family.
ACA Health Care Open Enrollment Has Begun
Access to health care is more important than ever, and there’s a great opportunity for Wisconsinites to get covered. Open enrollment through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is from November 1st through January 15th. If you enroll by December 15th, you can be covered by January 1st.
There are many affordable plans to choose from. 4 out of 5 families can get covered for less than $10 a month! During this time, you can also use free assistance to help you find the plan that works best for you. Wisconsinites can find local assistance through Covering Wisconsin using your zip code. You can also call Covering Wisconsin’s Milwaukee office at 414-400-9489 or visit Wiscovered.com for help.
Medicare Open Enrollment
Medicare open enrollment is also happening between now and December 7th. You can shop for Part D and Medicare Advantage plans and find assistance online at Medicare.gov or by phone at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
Getting Vaccinated
I also encourage eligible Wisconsinites to get a COVID-19 booster shot. This offers an extra layer of protection against the virus and can help keep you safe and healthy.
Eligible individuals include:
- Individuals who received a Johnson and Johnson (J&J) vaccine at least two months ago
- Individuals who received their first vaccine shots at least 6 months ago and are:
- 65 years and older
- 18 years and older with certain underlying conditions
- 18 years and older and live in long-term care settings
- Find more details on eligibility criteria here.
COVID-19 vaccines are safe, easy, and free. And if you haven’t received an initial COVID-19 vaccine, you can get vaccinated at a site near you. Milwaukee residents who take their second COVID-19 vaccine shot will receive a $25 U.S. Bank gift card while supplies last. All eligible individuals can receive the gift card.
This winter, I also hope you all get your flu shot. Milwaukee’s Health Department has several flu vaccine clinics for residents.
Child Tax Credit Reminder
As you may know, many families have started receiving monthly (Advance) Child Tax Credit payments, which started being dispersed in July. These payments are a tax cut for working families to help with expenses such as school supplies, groceries, childcare, and other crucial needs. These payments were passed through the American Rescue Plan, which I was so proud to support.
Eligible families will receive payments up to $300 per child younger than age 6 and up to $250 per child ages 6-17.
If you qualify for the expanded Child Tax Credit, you can check your enrollment status and make other updates to your bank account and mailing address here. You can also find answers to commonly asked questions, including the payment schedule here.
