Dear friend,
I hope you are doing well. We are officially in open enrollment season! If you are looking to get ACA health care coverage or change your plan, I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.
ACA Open Enrollment
Health care coverage is so important to staying healthy and well. And expanding access to affordable care continues to be my priority in Congress. Thanks to Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act, millions of Americans can continue accessing cost-saving subsidies on ACA health care exchanges, with tools like the premium tax credit. Most enrollees qualify for financial assistance to lower the cost of their coverage. Last year, 9 out of 10 percent of Americans qualified for financial assistance and 2 out of 3 people could receive a monthly plan for $10 or lower!
Each plan on the ACA market provides preventative health services, coverage for pre-existing conditions, and essential health benefits including prescription drugs, mental health services, emergency care and substance abuse care.
If you need help finding a plan, you can access free local help online or via phone. Covering Wisconsin has free resources to help guide you through this process. You can also call Covering Wisconsin at 877-942-6837 or 608-261-1455 to speak with an expert.
All Wisconsin residents can choose a plan and connect with a local expert at WisCovered.com.

Energy Assistance
As we start the fall and winter months, I want to ensure every person can stay warm in their homes. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a resource eligible families can use to pay for home heating costs, help families afford air conditioning bills in the winter, and weatherize homes to make them more energy efficient. Through the bipartisan infrastructure law and government funding legislation, Wisconsin is receiving more than $101 million in LIHEAP funds, helping more Wisconsinites who need this crucial energy assistance.
If you are unsure of your eligibility, use this tool to see if you qualify. To apply, head to energyhelp.us or call the National Energy Assistance Referral (NEAR) hotline toll-free at 1-866-674-6327.
Find local state resource info from Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program here and local resources from Community Advocates here.
I wanted to share some other reminders I shared in my previous newsletter.
Medicare open enrollment continues to run from now until December 7th, where you can change your plan and prescription drug coverage. You can visit Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) to find a plan that meets your specific needs.
If you rely on Medicaid or have a child using CHIP, be on the lookout for any mail from Medicaid and/or CHIP (BadgerCare) - Medicaid programs are doing their renewal processes. During this time, Medicaid programs are checking eligibility and renewing coverage for Medicaid recipients. It is important that you return any forms or information requested from you as soon as possible. Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus recipients are encouraged to learn their renewal month and make a plan to renew. Wisconsinites should click here to learn more.
