The videos documenting the shameful treatment of Sterling Brown released this month are yet another appalling blow to public trust and integrity by those who are meant to protect our communities. On the heels of the $1.9 Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) "stop and frisk" settlement, the shooting of Dontre Hamilton and Sylville Smith, and this distressing footage, it is long past time for MPD to make meaningful reforms.

I recently had the honor of joining WWII veteran Gene Schulz at Milwaukee's Memorial Day wreath laying ceremony to thank him for his service and to honor all the fallen armed services members who dedicated their lives to keeping our families safe and secure. As we mark another Memorial Day, let us continue our fight for a future worthy of their sacrifice.

Updates on Lead Poisoning in Milwaukee


In response to my request, HUD conducted an intensive assessment of the city's performance. Their investigation is ongoing as they are monitoring the city's implementation of their recommendations. As more information comes to light and the city and the federal government work to implement the changes necessary to protect our children, I will continue to work to ensure that our families and children are getting the help they need.
