Protecting Essential Services at Ascension


I am relieved that Ascension responded to the public's outcry by putting their harmful plan to cut essential services at St. Joseph's Hospital on hold. Reducing services to this vital safety-net hospital would threaten the well-being of my constituents by forcing them to travel to distant hospitals that are already struggling to meet existing demand.

Protecting Small & Minority Owned Businesses


In April, my amendment to ensure prompt payment to contractors working in our nation's airports passed the House as part of the FAA Reauthorization Act. The issue of delayed payments is one of many barriers that deny qualified minority and women-owned businesses fair opportunity. It is essential we protect these businesses from discrimination and ensure their equal treatment.

Protesting Cuts to Food Aid


Last week, I took to the House floor to protest massive cuts to food aid programs in the GOP’s Farm Bill. Hunger sees no gender, race, religion, or political affiliation. These cuts do nothing more than punish disadvantaged families and advance the GOP’s war on the poor.
