Addressing our Multiemployer Pension Crisis, Funding TRIO, Keeping Children Safe and more!

Passing the Butch Lewis Act

The multiemployer pension crisis is putting millions of Americans workers’ pensions at stake. There are more than 1,400 future and current Milwaukee retirees at risk of losing their pension, through no fault of their own. The Butch Lewis Act would provide much-needed funding and give current and future retirees peace of mind.

As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, I was excited to vote the Butch Lewis Act out of committee and was beaming with pride to see it pass the House

Guaranteeing TRIO Reaches Every Student

As a teenage single mother, I wouldn’t have completed college without TRIO. I want other disadvantaged students to have access to the same opportunity.

I introduced legislation that will not only strengthen TRIO programs but will ensure that administrative barriers don’t prevent a student from receiving much-needed aid.

Keep Children and Communities Safe

Lead poisoning has created a public health epidemic that has impacted communities here in Milwaukee. We need to take immediate action to protect the health and safety of children and families.

It’s why I introduced legislation to ensure that children enrolled in both CHIP and Medicaid are tested for lead poisoning, which will help keep some of our most vulnerable children safe.

If you would like to get tested for lead, visit the link for more information: https://gwenmoore.house.gov/constituent-services/lead-poisoning-response-prevention.htm.

Channeling Milwaukee’s Collective Voices

On a typical Thursday during the legislative session, I am usually in Washington D.C. This week, however, I joined community members in front of Milwaukee’s ICE building to oppose the Trump administration’s cruel immigration policies.

Families shouldn’t be torn apart and asylum seekers deserve to be treated humanely. I will continue using my voice and power in Congress to stand up to the Trump administration.

Giving American Workers a Living Wage

The fight for a living wage is personal for me. I know what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet and five years ago, I was arrested for protesting alongside Milwaukee workers in the Fight for 15.

Congress hasn’t raised the federal minimum wage in more than ten years. With the rising cost of health care and housing, no one in America can have a good quality of life on our minimum wage.

The House passed legislation to increase the minimum wage to $15, which will give 138,400 Milwaukee workers a much-needed raise. The Senate must now take up this crucial legislation.
