Dear friend,
I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy. I am writing to remind you to be counted in the 2020 Census. The 2020 Census helps determine the allocation of resources that are vital to our communities, including for our schools, health care, and many other critical services.
Until September 30th, as part of the final stages of completing the count, Census takers will visit homes that haven’t yet responded to the 2020 Census to make sure everyone is counted.
The city of Milwaukee currently has a response rate of 60.6%, much lower than the state average rate of 71.8%. And in some of our neighborhoods, the response rates are much lower than the district average! Each and every home in the community has the right to be counted fairly. Survey responses are confidential and safe, and the Census will not ask about your citizenship status, Social Security number, or your banking information.
In order to ensure that Milwaukee gets counted fairly for 2020, we need every one of you to complete your questionnaire (via mail to U.S. Census Bureau National Processing Center 1201 E 10th Street, Jeffersonville, IN 47132, by phone at 844-330-2020 (English) or 844-468-2020 (Spanish) or online by clicking the link here) or respond to the Census takers that may visit your home. Again, the information gathered from the Census helps ensure that our schools, infrastructure, and emergency services get the funding they need in order to provide essential community services. The Census also helps direct political representation across all levels of local, state, and federal government.
Don’t miss the chance to ensure your community receives the resources it needs. And when you finish completing your Census form, please tell your neighbors, friends, and family to do the same.
Your friend,
Gwen
