Dear friend,
I hope you are staying safe and healthy. I want to provide you with resources that can help you and your family. Find information below on how to get covered during the current ACA health care marketplace special open enrollment period, make a COVID-19 vaccine appointment, get tax filing assistance, and receive COVID-19 funeral financial assistance.
COVID-19 Vaccines
I encourage you all to get vaccinated. I just received my second COVID-19 vaccine shot and feel reassured that I have an extra layer of protection against the virus. Let’s all get vaccinated. In Wisconsin, any person ages 16 and older can receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Visit city.milwaukee.gov/CovidVax to register for an appointment and find the latest hours for walk-in vaccination sites.
Tax Filing
You now have until May 17th to file your taxes. Free online tax filing resources are available through the IRS. Additionally, you can find tax filing assistance according to your zip code.
ACA Open Enrollment
President Biden extended the Affordable Care Act (ACA) open enrollment deadline to August 15th. This is a great opportunity to get health care coverage, which is so important to access the care you need, especially since the Administration has now revised healthcare.gov and incorporated additional ACA subsidies and changes made in the American Rescue Plan, which will help more families find better plans at lower costs.
Head to HealthCare.Gov to find a plan or change your current health insurance. You may also qualify for financial support! 2 out of 3 people qualified for a $10 plan or less. If you need help enrolling in a plan, visit coveringwi.org or call 608-261-1455 or 414-400-9489. Open enrollment resources are available in Spanish at CuidadoDeSalud.gov.
Financial Assistance for COVID-19 Funeral-Related Expenses
Many families had to lay their loved ones to rest due to the pandemic, another stress added to grieving a loss. If you paid funeral costs, you could qualify for assistance through FEMA. To find out more, call FEMA’s hotline at 844-684-6333. Please keep in mind there is no deadline to sign up for assistance.
