Friends, As 2017 comes to a conclusion, I wanted to take a moment to thank every American who stood up and spoke out this year. Citizens have taken action all across the country, and my office has received a record number of calls, tweets, and emails. Last January, as I stood on stage at the Women’s March and looked out over a sea of pink knit hats, I witnessed action the likes of which I haven’t seen for years. Many speculated that this groundswell of engagement would lose momentum as the year progressed. However, our numbers have only grown in size and strength. Needless to say, such energy makes me proud to be an American and elected representative. With your help in 2017, Democrats were able to defeat Trumpcare, preventing millions of hardworking Americans from losing their health insurance. In another resounding victory, 8.8 million people signed up for coverage during this year's ACA open enrollment period. The American people defied the Trump Administration’s attempts at sabotage and once again demanded access to quality and affordable health insurance. In the New Year, I am committed to continuing the fight to protect bedrock safety net programs like SNAP, SSI, Medicare, and Medicaid. Thank you for joining me in this journey, for not giving up, and for holding all your elected officials accountable.
