Dear Friends,
For many, Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer, a time for family picnics, barbecues, and outings to the community pool. As we take part in these seasonal festivities, let us not forget the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in our shared pursuit for peace and the defense of liberty. Let us not forget to honor all of those who lost their lives in service to our country and to remember that the strength and extent of our nation’s freedom came with a great price.
Their sacrifice was tremendous, but certainly not in vain.
On this solemn day of remembrance, we pause to consider the generations and individuals who fought for our security in the face of tyranny. I ask that you stand with me with humility while committing to remember them and their devotion to the place we call home. We acknowledge our responsibility as Americans to preserve their memory, honor their sacrifice, and the sacrifice of their families.
Today, I offer my warmest thanks to those from Milwaukee and across the U.S. who have and continue to put themselves in harm's way so that all of us could live in freedom. Their sacrifice has helped build a country where our children are free to live up to their limitless potential and pursue their dreams of becoming a teacher, doctor, artist, or even a congresswoman.
With love and gratitude,
Gwen
